about
The Damn Straights is a new project between Lack of Afro and Herbal T.
Adam Gibbons aka Lack of Afro: “The Damn Straights is a collaborative project between myself and emcee Herbal T. Around four years ago we travelled to NYC and recorded a load of tracks at Studio G in Brooklyn. Four years later, after other projects, having kids and worldwide pandemics got in the way, we're finally good to go!”
Herbal T is the twin brother of emcee Wax (the rhymer on Lack of Afro’s ‘You Could Do Better’) and a collaborator with Kazahaya on Breakin’ Bread. ‘Blow It Up’ follows the blue touch paper beats of ‘The World’s on Fire (Let It Burn)’, supported by BBC 6 Music’s Amy Lamé: taking no prisoners, the duo rip it up and start again with a searing, sneering, two minute rock-rap wrecking ball. The self-titled, four-track EP promises similar fireworks upon its release next month.
lyrics
Never been so cool never been so steady,
Never been so moved never been so ready,
Man I got the timer set for when they're dropping the confetti,
And if the bomb don't blow Imma chop with a machete,
Til you all fall down like London Bridges
My people in the kitchen got guns in fridges
The whole wait staff a bunch of murdering guerillas,
One word turn the chefs and the servers into killers,
They never had a job so easy,
It's gonna be a piece of cake
You're gonna get your just desserts,
Enjoy your last piece of cake,
With you champagne flute and you campaign suit,
Peter Tosh told me You Can't Blame the Youth,
They've been pushed so hard that they had to break,
And coming here was your last mistake we're gonna blow it up,
There's something coming and I don't know what
But I know, I know we bout to Blow it Up
Let's do it now, right now, let's Blow it Up,
Right now, right now we bout to Blow it Up,
The uprising was crowdfunded,
And surprising from the sound of it,
Saw blood flying and rounds buzzing,
Everyone dying all around us,
And these "tough guys" are just clowns fuck em,
We had enough lying from loud puppets,
They're ducking, hiding, on the ground covering up,
Man fuck em find em we don't give a mother fuck,
We're in no mood today,
Start thinking about what you want your tomb to say,
It's looking like doomsday in the room today,
Turn your Kumbaya to a Bomaye,
Turn your cocktail party to a blowout,
It's really not a bad way to go out,
Wanna speak but we got no voice,
Gotta blow it up cuz we got no choice,
There's something coming and I don't know what
But I know, I know we bout to Blow it Up
Let's do it now, right now, let's Blow it Up,
Right now, right now we bout to Blow it Up,
There's something coming and I don't know what
But I know, I know we bout to Blow it Up
Let's do it now, right now, let's Blow it Up,
Right now, right now we bout to Blow it Up
